Ryerson Interprofessional Student Association

Image of RISA executive members

RISA, the RU Interprofessional supported student group, works to raise the awareness of interprofessional education and collaboration across the campus.

Interprofessional education is about preparing students to work collaboratively across professional boundaries by exposing them to opportunities to learn with, from and about each other across programs. The expectation is that by being more aware of the scopes of practice of other health care and community service professionals, students are better prepared to form collaborative health care teams once they graduate, and that this will lead to improved client care.

All FCS students are welcome to come out to the RISA meetings. To find out when the next one is, just email rurisa@ryerson.ca

The Executive team for the 2017/2018 academic year is:

  • Chair: Lauren Lovold
  • Vice-chair: Muhammad (Hamzah) Abid
  • Finance and Administation: Élyse Comeau
  • Communication Coordination: Jeevan Thomas
  • Membership Corodination: Stephan Allen
  • Member at large: Daphne Mazarura

In March of 2017, the Ryerson Interprofessional Student Association (RISA) hosted their inaugural case competition. Learners from across five Schools within the Faculty of Community Services participated in this very first case competition, delivering carefully considered and meaningful solutions for the case. The event was a success for RISA, and future editions are being planned.

For more information about how to participate in future RISA events, please email rurisa@ryerson.ca or find them on facebook: facebook.com/RISAatRyerson

RISA organizes in student-to-student events through the year and every year, generally during the month of March, RISA hosts an evening workshop focused on interprofessional education and collaboration.

RISA welcomes new members from all health sciences and community services disciplines. For more information about RISA and how to get involved, contact RISA at rurisa@ryerson.ca
