Violence Risk Management Office (VRMO)
The Violence Risk Management Office (VRMO) engages with incidents related to violence as outlined in Ryerson’s Workplace Violence Prevention & Response Program (see link at bottom). Their mandate includes violence threat detection, violence risk assessment, violence risk management, and violence prevention.
All incidents reported to Ryerson University’s Security & Emergency Services are reviewed and an assessment is conducted by trained VRMO specialists using evidence-based Structured Professional Judgment tools.
Violence risk is managed in conjunction with other departments at Ryerson University such as the Student Conduct Office, Human Resources, and the Centre for Student Development and Counselling. Cases are referred to an interdisciplinary team if required. VRMO also liaises with external agencies if required including the police, the courts, and mental health professionals.
VRMO plays an active role in the development of University policy related to workplace violence. VRMO specialists conduct individual and group safety planning sessions on a regular basis and develop workshops on a diverse range of safety related topics.
Incidents should be reported to Security & Emergency Services as described in the Steps to Take When You Encounter Concerning Behaviour on Campus (see link at bottom) at 416-979-5040 for an initial report and immediate response.
VRMO can also be contacted for consultations, workshops, or complex situations not requiring an immediate response.
