Biography:
Leigh Felesky works as a journalist, educator and communication consultant focusing in the online medium. As an instructor for Ryerson University’s online department, she has taught Introduction to Online Journalism (JRN112) and Online Journalism Internships (JRN114).
In addition, she is currently a Sr. Producer for CBC.ca (News) focusing on User Generated Content and Web 2.0. Prior to that, Leigh was the Editorial Director/Managing Editor of Kaboose.com, the third largest US-focused parenting site. Leigh has made media appearances on Martha Stewart Living radio, Kaboose TV and The Mom Show. She also lead the new Kaboose community, video, photo and blogging channels.
From 2000-2005 Leigh was the Sr. Editor/Producer for Rogers Media (Chatelaine.com, Todaysparent.com, Macleans.ca, Canadianbusiness.ca and Flare.com), where she received three Rogers Media awards including Best Print/Web Integration and Best Original Online Writing. While pioneering editorial connections between print and Web, she founded and managed Chatelaine.com community news and launched the Macleans.ca and Chatelaine.qc.ca communities.
Leigh continues to do freelance writing with a focus on women's issues, exploring intersections of race, class and gender as it relates to parenting and social issues. Recent topics include the politics of procreation and “feminist” mothering in the new millennium.
Qualifications:
B.A.A. from Ryerson Journalism school and an MA of interdisciplinary studies with a focus on women studies, business and communication from Oregon State University.
