The Ryerson School of Journalism is now accepting applications for CUPE positions in Fall 2012 and Winter 2013.

Congratulations to NNA award winner, and Ryerson Jschool graduate, Jesse McLean. McLean, Moria Welsh and Andrew Bailey won in the investigations category for theirToronto Star  investigation into elder abuse in long-term care homes.

Student Journalist of the Year honour

Congrats to B.Journ final-year student Katia Dmitrieva, finalist for the Student Journalist of the Year honour bestowed by the Ontario Newspaper Awards. Her Ryersonian multimedia story examined the practices and impact of private firms that promote overseas law schools to students.  

CBC Joan Donaldson Award winners

Congratulations to Ryerson's three (THREE!) winners of this year’s CBC Joan Donaldson Award: Brigitte Noel, David Thurton and Calvin To. This highly competitive honour is awarded to eight students from nine universities after a CBC interview process that is aptly described as "rigorous." 

The task of the Ryerson jury in selecting a shortlist for CBC consideration was "exceptionally difficult this year  because of the outstanding quality of the submissions," according to Suanne Kelman, the School of Journalism's Associate Chair.

Each Donaldson Scholar receives a cash award of $2,000.00, training and a four-month paid internship at one or more CBC News locations.

The Ryerson Journalism Research Centre and the Ryerson Law Research Centre invite proposals for papers/panels for Press freedom in Canada: A status report on the 30th anniversary of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, March 9, 2012.
