Renewing Library Material

(Circulation Desk, 2nd Floor, 416-979-5055, access@ryerson.ca)

Most Library items may be renewed three times, with the exception of Reserve items and special loans. DVDs and videos cannot be renewed. Items can be renewed in person, electronically via the library catalogue, or by calling the Circulation Desk during library hours at 416-979-5055, option 2.

Overdue items can be renewed if fines are less than $20.00 in total. If an item has been requested, claimed returned, or recalled, you cannot renew it and should return the item by the current due date.

To renew items on your record:

  1. Go to the Ryerson Library Home Page
  2. Click on Check your File
  3. Enter your:
    • first or last name
    • library card barcode number (all the digits, no spaces)
    • PIN number (last four digits of your student number).
  4. Click on the Display record for person named above button
  5. Click on the Items currently checked out button
  6. To try renewing all items, click on the RENEW ALL button
  7. To try renewing some items:
    • Click on box to left of title to make a checkmark
    • Click on the RENEW SELECTED ITEMS button
  8. Check the due dates, scrolling down the screen to see the whole list

If there are items that did not renew, you will see red text in the Status column of each of those items. If the red text says "HOLD" OR "TOO MANY RENEWALS", then you should return the item on the due date showing in the Status column.

Overdue Items

You can renew overdue items via our library catalogue until the total accumulated fines exceed $20.00, at which point you must phone staff at the Circulation Desk (416-979-5055, option 2) to see if the other items can be renewed.

Late charges will begin to accrue at 12:01 A.M. on the day after the due date. If an item is more than forty days overdue, your record will be charged the replacement cost of the item.

If an item on your record shows a status of claims returned, lost, or billed, then you must return the book to the Circulation Desk if you still have it.
