Brief Description:
The Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI) contains over 130,000
annotated references from more than 500 design and craft journals
and newspapers published from 1973 onwards, and data on over 50,000
designers, craftspeople, studios, workshops, firms etc., making
it the largest index of its kind in the world. Research articles
are covered, along with topical news items, conference and seminar
reports, and book, video and exhibition reviews. Each reference
includes full bibliographic details and a brief abstract.
DAAI also includes two supplementary databases: Education Directory
and Periodicals Directory.
Education Directory
This is an international directory of universities and colleges
that offer courses in design and craft subjects. It contains
contact postal addresses, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail addresses,
web site details, and a list of core subjects taught in design
and the applied arts.
Using this database you could, for example, trace most of the universities
and colleges in Australia that teach industrial design, or those
in the USA that teach graphic design. This database currently contains
over 2,800 entries.
Periodicals Directory
This is an international directory of design and craft journals
(based on the titles indexed by DAAI). It contains, for each
title, the publisher's address; telephone and fax numbers, e-mail
addresses and web site details; details of subjects covered;
a brief description of the contents of the journal; original
date of publication; details of title changes; and ISSN number.
Using this data you could, for example, trace the major industrial
design journals published in Italy, or ceramics magazines published
in the USA.
This database currently contains details of nearly 450 journals
which are or have been indexed by DAAI.
