Table of Contents Services
Table of contents services are designed
to keep you up-to-date with information about the latest journal
publications and Internet-based resources as they become available.
This guide provides links to several of the services that can be
accessed to receive the results of saved searches or the tables
of contents of journals by e-mail.
American Chemical Society's ASAP
ASAP Alerts is a new free service that brings the latest research
posted to ACS Web Editions. ASAP Alerts features announcements of
newly available A.S.A.P (As Soon As Publishable) articles from each
of ACS' 28 Web Editions. Users can sign up to receive e-mail notices
on a weekly basis or on the same day the articles are posted. The
message contains the title, author, journal name, official Web publication
date, and direct URL link to the full article on the Web. Register
for ASAP alerts by filling up form including your e-mail address.
You will receive one e-mail for each journal you sign up for, either
weekly or daily--depending on the frequency you choose.Return to page top
American Society of Civil Engineers- ASCE
Receive table
of contents alerts as the newest issues of ASCE
journals are published. You have the option of receiving alerts
in plain text or HTML format (note: alerts in HTML format are fully
linked to abstracts and full text.) The service is free, simply

email address and choose the journals for which you like
to receive alerts from the provided list.

BioMedNet
BioMedNet is a collection
of scientific resources published on the Internet. Using BioMedNet,
you can find information on journals, books, research papers, jobs,
and scientific products.
To receive the free Table of Content's Email Alert , go to the
BioMedNet Alerts
page.You will need to join Biomednet before you can receive these
alerts by registering on the

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) Alerts
The Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) Internet Database Service
(IDS) provides bibliographic databases in science, the social sciences
and technology. Databases available at Ryerson include: Environmental
Sciences and Pollution Management, ERIC,
PsycInfo,
Social
Services Abstracts, and Sociological
Abstracts. Alerts can be emailed to you on your research topic.
To set up an alert, access one of the databases and perform a
search. When the results appear, click on the Search History/Alerts
button and then select the Save as Alert option. Enter an
email address and password and hit "Save". CSA will then
automatically check your chosen database(s) each week for new content

CatchWord Alerts
CatchWord is a database
of over 1100 online journals from leading scholarly, academic and
business publishers.
CatchWord's free ToC Alerting Service will email you the contents
page of any chosen journal whenever the latest issue becomes available
online. Anyone can request e-mail alerts: you do not have to be
a subscriber. Just Sign

Cubby
Cubby is a new feature of PubMed
that provides users with a personalized online "storage space" for
searches. Users may enter up to 100 search statements. These search
statements are stored in Cubby and are updated periodically.
To use Cubby to store search strategies, you must first
register. Once you've registered, you can start saving
searches. Searches with special terms and limits can be stored.
The Last Search section displays your last search run, which you
should rename and then Store in Cubby. You can update any search
in your Cubby by clicking on the check box(es) next to the Cubby
Search Name and then on What's New For Selected.
EbscoHost
Databases available through EbscoHost
include Academic Search Premier, Computer Source, and ERIC.
The EBSCOhost Alerts feature allows a user to save a search and
have it run at specified intervals. You will receive e-mail notification
when new articles that match your search query have been found.
To create Alerts : Choose one of the EbscoHost databases and then
select the Expert search option. Search on a topic when the
search results appear, click on Refine Search. Click on Save
Search/Alert. Follow the instructions at I'm a New User
to set up a New Account and then Save Alert. Return to page top
EEVL (Edinburgh Engineering Virtual Library)
Current Awareness Services
EEVL provides a central
access point to networked Engineering information for the UK higher
education and research community, and anyone else who may be looking
for networked engineering information. Resources being added to
the catalogue are selected, catalogued, classified and subject-indexed
by experts to ensure that only current, high-quality or useful resources
are included. Current
Awareness Services section provides comprehensive compilation
of other awareness services such as Sci-Tech
library Newsletter, New
Sites by Week - Donald W. Craik Engineering Library , and INFOMINE:
What's New! Physical Sciences, Engineering, Computing & Math.
Also, provides access to various current awareness resources for
new engineering books, new engineering articles, conferences, symposia

Emerald Alert
Emerald
(Electronic Management Research Library Database) delivers all
the resources of a full management library of journal literature including
the topics, management human resources, information management, library
& information services, marketing, operations, production & economics,
property, quality, training & education.
Emerald's alerting service emails the contents of journals you
choose from the major management disciplines represented. There
are two options for this alerting service: 1)
Saved Search (adding your searches to an alert profile
will result in future emails containing citations that match the
search in your selected database) 2.)
Table Of Contents (as new issues of any journals you
choose become available, an email containing the table of contents
for that journal will be sent to you). Return to page top
IEEE - What's new?/IEEE Xplore
WHAT'S NEW @ IEEE, is a complimentary monthly electronic newsletter.
What's New will keep you informed about IEEE's library related activities,
policies, and periodicals releases. To receive your free subscription,
go to What's New@IEEE
and formally subscribe by entering your E-mail address.
IEEE
Xplore email alerts notify you by email when new issues
of the journals and magazines you request become available. Xplore
provides full text access to journals and magazines available to
you after submitting your name and email address. The email will
include as many journals as you choose and the table of contents
for each issue. (Note: conference proceedings and standards are

Infomine E-Mail Alert Service
INFOMINE is a unique
Web resource featuring well organized access to important university
level research and educational tools on the Internet. A virtual
library, INFOMINE is notable for its collection of over 23,000 annotated
and indexed links. Substantive databases, electronic journals, guides
to the Internet for most disciplines, textbooks and conference proceedings
are among the many types of resources included in Infomine.
Before receiving e-mail alerts from Infomine, you will need to
register.
Once you have registered, e-mail alerts in the categories you have
selected will be delivered at seven, fourteen or twenty day intervals. Return to page top
IoP Alerts
The Institute
of Physics (IoP) Alerts service is designed to keep you
up-to-date with the publication of new articles within your chosen
subject area. Whenever a new article corresponding to your selection
becomes available, you will automatically receive an e-mail message
containing the article details.
The first thing you need to do to access this service is to
create an account. Once you have created an alert profile,
whenever articles matching your criteria are published, you will
automatically receive e-mail messages containing their details (including
the abstracts if you wish). You can also create profiles to receive
the tables of contents of IOP journals as soon as issues are published

Librarians' Resource Center
Librarians'
Resource Center provides monthly annotated listing of new
and useful sites in various categories such as business, commercial
database vendors, engineering science and technology, government
and web publishing and many others.

Medfetch
MedFetch is a web based
software program for querying the world's greatest medical databases.
As new information is added, MedFetch scans the database according
to your search terms. Once you set up an Automated Medline Query (AMQ),
any NEW citation that is added to the 9 million citations in MEDLINE
and Pre-MEDLINE which matches your search terms, will be e-mailed
directly to you.
To use this service, you will need to Register
at Medfetch (click on accept to continue the registration
process) and set up your Automated Medline Queries according to
the instructions given at this site. Any matches in the last 30
days are e-mailed to you. From then on, the search is run over and
over again. You do not receive duplicates. Return to page top
Northern Light Search Alert
Service
Northern Light
provides access to a collection of over 7100 full-text publications
organized into custom search folders. Their Search
Alert service will notify you when there are new Web pages
or special collection documents covering topics of your choice. Before

NSDL Scout Report
As part of the NSDL project (National Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Mathematics Education Digital Library), the Internet Scout Project's
NSDL Scout Reports
offer high quality information about online resources. A team of
professional librarians and content experts locate, research, and
annotate these resources for the reports. Topics covered by the
reports include the life sciences, the physical sciences, and math,
engineering & technology. Subscribe
to receive bi-weekly reports of the best new and newly discovered
online resources in each of these topic areas. Return to page top
OVID
Databases available through OVID
include: Cancerlit and Medline. The full text of 15 nursing
journals and a selection of reference texts are also available through
OVID.
You can create AutoAlerts in OVID to periodically receive
the results of saved searches. To create an AutoAlert, undertake
a search on any topic. When the search results appear, click on
Save Search History and activate the radio button for AutoAlert
(SDI) Service. Add your e-mail address to the on-line form and

Oxford Journals
To receive via e-mail the latest table of contents for any journal(s)
from Oxford, go to Table
of Contents Emailing Service and choose journal(s) of your
choice. Tables of contents and abstracts are freely available to anyone

Proceedings
of the National Academy of Sciences
Two types of Email Alerts are available to PNAS Online users:
CiteTrack will alert you by email whenever new content in
Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences or a participating
journal is published that matches criteria based on the topics,
authors and articles you want to track. This feature is only available
to individual subscribers. Read detailed

up for CiteTrack.
Contents Awareness service allows anyone who registers their
address to be notified via email when new content goes online. You
may choose to receive any or all of the following: notification
that a new issue of PNAS is online, complete table of contents (eTOC)
for new issues, or special announcements from NAS.

Project Muse
Receive weekly e-mail notifications of new journal issues or new
titles available in Project Muse by registering at the Project
Muse Journal Alerts link.
Project
Muse offers nearly 200 quality journal titles from approximately
30 scholarly publishers. As an important source of academic and
scholarly content, Project Muse covers the fields of literature
and
criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies,
education, political science, gender studies, economics, and many

The Royal Society
An independent national academy founded in 1660, the
Royal Society supports scientific researchers and publishes
five peer-reviewed journals, along with promoting international
interaction concerning issues in science. The Society represents
not only the scientific community within Britain, but relations
with scientists and scientific organizations throughout the world.
To receive Table
of Contents email alerts, choose 'Proceedings A' or 'Proceedings
B' and then 'Alerts' on the following screen. Enter your name and
email address. Once you have registered, you will have the option
of selecting or deleting potential journals from your list. Return to page top
Scholars Portal
The Scholars Portal
provides access to 3,193 full text journals published by Academic
Press, Elsevier Science, Kluwer (Kluwer Academic Publishers), Kluwer
Law International, Kluwer/Plenum, Springer-Verlag, and John Wiley
& Sons. The Scholar's Portal Alerts service can be used to receive
the results of saved searches and the tables of contents of journals
by e-mail.
Prior to using the Alerts service, you will need to register
for an account to create a username and password. To begin
using the Alerts service, click on the logon link on the
top left of the Scholars Portal home page and log in using your
username and password. To obtain tables of contents, browse
the journals by title or publisher. When the issue information for
a journal is displayed, you can click on New Issue Alerts: Add
this Journal to create a table of contents alert. To periodically
receive the results of a saved search, search on a topic of your
choice and when the results appear click on the Save Search
option.

The Scientist
The Scientist, the News Journal for the Life Scientist, provides a
new alert service at The
Scientist. At this site after you register
with an email address, members will receive biweekly e-mail
notification of the contents of the latest issue of The Scientist.
The Scientist is the first and only news journal for scientists which
is freely available in full text on the web. The Scientist provides
an open forum for examination and discussion of issues in research,
technology, employment, funding, policy and other subjects important
