Printing, Emailing and Saving Articles
Printing
There are six networked laser printer available in the Library,
located on the main floor in the Reference area. To print from
PCs in the Library or Labs, you will need to have funds available
on your student card. Funds can be loaded onto your card on the
2nd and 5th floor of the Library at the Card Value Centre (CVC) located
near the photocopy machines or on the CVC in the main lobby of
the Library. Copy cards for the use of the printer are also available,
cost $5 and are available from the card dispensers on the 2nd and 5th floor,
or from the Ryerson
One-Card Office. Printing costs $0.07 per page.
Print jobs may also be sent from the Library computers to printers
in KHW71 and the lab in BUS511.
Printing from wireless laptops: To print using your wireless laptop, you will need to log into the Ryerson University Campus Printing Service (this link will only work on wireless laptops). CCS provides more information about this service in their user's guide under Ryerson University Campus Printing Service (CPS).
HTML (Web page) documents:
Most databases have a print or print version icon. Make sure that
you click on this icon or link and follow any instructions. This
will format your article in a manner appropriate for printing. If
there is no print icon, you can either click on the print button
in your browser or choose 'File', 'Print' from the browser menu
bar.
To print just a small section of the article, highlight
the text that you want to print. Select 'File', 'Print' from the
menu bar. Under 'Print Range', choose the selection option. If you
are printing just a section of an article, it is a good idea to
make sure you also print the citation information for your bibliography.
PDF Documents: Click on the print icon in
the Adobe Acrobat reader. This will give you the option of printing
one page, all pages or a selection of pages. Do not use the print
options in your browser as this may cause blank pages to print.
Emailing
Most databases allow you to email articles or citations.
Check for an email icon or link on the page. Instructions are provided
for the following major groups of databases:
Ebsco: Display
the article in the format that you want. Click on email
Cambridge: Mark the article(s) that you
want. Click on the Save/Print/Email Records button. Input
your email address and click on the email button.
Lexis/Nexis: Display
the article. Click on the email tab. Enter your email address and click on email.
Proquest: Open the
article. Click on Email Article button. Enter your email address when prompted.
OVID: Mark the articles
that you want. At the bottom of the page, select your desired
options and click on email.
Scholarsportal: Currently it is not possible
to email articles from scholarsportal.
Saving
Some of the databases will have a save icon you
can click if you want to save a citation or article. Click on this
icon and follow the instructions given. If there is no save or link
icon provided, go to 'File', 'Save As' and save the document that
way. To save your article as a text file instead of HTML, use the
'Save As Type' drop down menu in the 'Save As' box. Select 'Text
File (*.txt)'.
To save a pdf article, use the 'Save' icon in the
Adobe Acrobat Reader.
