E-Reserve

416-979-5000 x6172 or reserve@ryerson.ca

Since May 2011, the Library has been using Ares, a new E-Reserve system that is integrated with Blackboard. With Ares you can easily add links to digital resources including articles found in the Library's subscription databases so that they are available directly from your Blackboard course. If you have materials that you would like to digitize and integrate in Blackboard, please check the copyright section below.

Placing items on E-Reserve

Ask DMP courses@ryerson.ca or DE dehelp@ryerson.ca to add the Library to your Blackboard course(s) as both builder (reserve_01) and student (ds_library)

You may submit course reading requests to E-Reserve staff or by yourself through the new Ares system.

via E-Reserve staff:

or by yourself via Ares (E-Reserve staff will check your requests to ensure links are durable and that there are no copyright issues before they are made live in Blackboard):

Processing Time

  • up to 10 days
  • extra time will be required if we need to seek copyright permissions

Copyright Considerations

In most cases links from your courses to online articles available in the Library's databases can be made without any copyright concerns.

Copyright permission is required if you wish to:

  • scan print copies of materials and place them on e-reserve
  • stream video

E-Reserve staff will assist you in getting copyright permission, but please be aware that:

  • large numbers of scanned documents cannot be put on E-Reserve because of the time and cost involved
  • materials with high copyright costs will not be placed on reserve
