Web Applications for the Ryerson Library

The following tools can be used to connect to Ryerson Library resources and services from other sites on the web.

Google and NetVibes Search Gadget


Google Search Gadget

Add this search gadget to your Google or NetVibes Home Page to make searching the Ryerson Library catalogue easier.

Ryerson Library Lookup from Amazon/Indigo/Google Books

Once installed in your Firefox browser, the Amazon/Indigo/Google lookup script will show you the Ryerson Library status of a title you are viewing in Amazon (Canada and US), Indigo, and Google Books.

To enable this script you will need to do the following:

  1. Get Firefox (if you don't already have it)
  2. Install Greasemonkey (you may need to make this a trusted site in Firefox)
  3. Install the Amazon/Indigo/Google Lookup script

Search the Ryerson Library Catalogue from Facebook

Facebook

To search the Ryerson Library Catalogue from within Facebook, you will need to add an application to your profile.

  1. Go to the following url http://apps.facebook.com/ryersonlibrary/
  2. Log into Facebook if you have not already done so
  3. Click on the blue Log into Ryerson U Library button at the bottom of the page.
  4. On the next screen click on the blue Add Ryerson U Library button at the bottom of the screen.

A Ryerson Library U link will appear on the left under Applications in your Facebook account. Click on it to access the Ryerson Library from within Facebook.

Libraries wishing to create their own Facebook application may wish to see the Facebook and Your Webpac instructions

Get It Buttons in Google Scholar

Configure Google Scholar for use off-campus so that you can link to full text of articles for which the Ryerson Library has subscriptions. In order for Google Scholar to know that you are affiliated with Ryerson, you will need to configure your Google Scholar Preferences as follows:

  1. Go to Scholar Preferences
  2. Scroll down to the Library Links section; enter Ryerson in the search box
  3. Click in the box beside Ryerson University Get it! @ Ryerson
  4. Scroll down and click on the Save Preferences button

Once configured you will see Get It buttons and links to full text when you search Google Scholar.

Ryerson Library Catalogue Search

Add the Ryerson Library Catalogue as one of your options in the Search Bar in the upper-right corner of Firefox

  1. Install
  2. A grey pop-box will appear with the question: Add the following search engine to the Search Bar? Click on Okay.
  3. Ryerson Library Catalogue will appear in the drop-down menu of the search box
