Locating Finance and Investment Information

The best indexes for articles and financial data about finance and investment are:

ABI/Inform

ABI/INFORM provides worldwide coverage of business conditions, trends, corporate strategies and tactics, management techniques, competitive and product information, and a wide variety of other topics. Also, provides information on 60,000+ companies.

Over 1,300 sources (including 350 titles from outside the U.S.) are indexed and abstracted. Of these, 600 are available in full text.

Datastream

Provides daily pricing and volume information on over 37,000 equities from 57 countries, 12,000 market, stock and bond indices, and 87,000 macroeconomic series from central statistical offices such as Statistics Canada, and sources such as International Financial Statistics and selected OECD series. Also included are over 2,000 daily foreign exchange rates, 1,000 daily and weekly interest rate series, 68,000 fixed income instruments from 23 countries and more than 260 financial and commodity futures and options contracts. Available in the Library on the main floor on PC numbered 41 and 42.

Factiva

Factiva, a Dow Jones & Reuters Company, provides global content with multiple language interfaces and multilingual content covering nearly 8,000 sources.

Factiva provides access to over 1,000 global and local newspapers including the full text of the Globe & Mail from November 14, 1977, more than 6,500 magazines, including industry-specific journals and newsletters, 270+ newswires, including Dow Jones, Reuters and The Associated Press, 160+ Media Programs, with transcripts from BBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and more, 9,000 Web sites in more than 20 languages and more than 20,000 Company Reports. On average, 3,000+ pictures are added each week from Reuters and Knight Ridder.

Company Research Tools Perform company screening on a collection of nearly 24,000 global companies using 26 criteria. Current quotes and market data are available from Reuters Investor. Instrument types supported include global stocks, market indices, mutual funds and corporate bonds

Mergent Online

Mergent Online is a subscription-based service offering over 10,000 U.S. public companies and 17,000 non-U.S. public companies. What began in 1997 as Company Data Direct -- a subscription service of 10,000 companies on the NYSE, AMEX and Nasdaq exchanges, has expanded into a "suite" of global business and financial information products carefully designed to offer the respected investment research tools that you have come to rely on from Mergent .

Equity Portraits contains fundamental company information with stock price volume and data for over 10,000 firms. Each portrait features a complete analysis of firm's financial information, industry analysis and text commentary to provide perspective on the firm both in absolute terms as well as relative to industry peers.

LEXIS/NEXIS

Lexis/Nexis Academic is a full-text database which focuses primarily on business, legal and news resources. Included in the database are law reports, company filings, journal and newspaper articles, broadcast transcripts, etc.

Lexis/Nexis Academic is available exclusively for the use of currently enrolled students and faculty of Ryerson. Commercial use is strictly prohibited.

TSX-CMFRC

The Canadian Financial Markets Research Centre (CFMRC) Summary Information Database includes: daily and monthly Toronto Stock Exchange trading information about specific securities; information on "price adjustments" such as dividends, stock splits, recapitalizations, etc.; information on daily and monthly index levels; as well as selected other financial markets information. Also includes selected time series data for t-bill rates, bond rates and foreign exchange rates. The database is divided into two parts: common equities and preferred equities.
