About the LTO

The Learning and Teaching Office (LTO) was established in 1993 by the Vice President Academic to support and provide resources to faculty in their teaching. The Office reports to Dr. Chris Evans, Vice Provost Academic.

Vision Statement

The Learning and Teaching Office fosters a culture of best teaching practice that is grounded in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Learning and Teaching Office is to provide professional development in teaching for faculty at all stages of their careers. To achieve this, the LTO provides services and programs that are focused on improving student learning, addressing diversity through appropriate teaching methods, engaging faculty in interdisciplinary experiences, and strengthening the connection between teaching and research.

Goals

  1. Provide services that are relevant to faculty and timely in their scheduling
  2. Provide opportunities for discussion about teaching at Ryerson
  3. Offer resources to assist faculty to:
    • provide skills for effective course management
    • create evaluations/assessment of their students that are relevant to their course goals
    • infuse appropriate technology into their teaching and to use technology in a way that enhances teaching
    • see the connection between the scholarship of teaching and teaching practice
    • teach to Ryerson's diverse population and model best practice at the LTO
    • understand teaching data (e.g. Faculty Course Surveys) and relate these data back to teaching practice
    • understand the difference between teaching and learning
    • understand the ways in which people learn and relate that to the forms of delivery

Location

The Office is located in Kerr Hall West, KHW373, 379 Victoria Street view map. Use the Library entrance at 350 Victoria Street, go to the 3rd floor, cross the small skywalk and you will find the LTO Office on your left - KHW373.
