Social media and web 2.0 at Ryerson

Technology forms a crucial part of the Ryerson learning experience, from the multimedia podiums in the classrooms, to the Library's impressive collection of electronic books and journals. The Learning & Teaching Office has partnered with the Digital Media Projects Office (DMP) to support the use of technology in the classroom.

Past Workshops: Social Media and Web 2.0 Workshops, 2010-2012

The LTO has teamed up with the DMP, EdgeLab, and the Ryerson University Library to produce a series of workshops, discussions, and walk-in clinics on the use of web 2.0 and social media in the classroom. This series, focusing on hands-on instruction and pedagogical examples, showed possible uses for technologies like micro-blogging, blogging, RSS feeds, podcasting, lecturecasting, wikis, photo-sharing, and social bookmarking and tagging. Read more about the workshop and discussion series at the Web 2.0 Blog. The blog also has recordings and PowerPoint slides for each session:

We are currently looking to revise or develop new workshops and would love input from the Ryerson community.

Ryerson Faculty Conference Podcasts

Teaching with technologyPresenters at the 2011 Ryerson Faculty Conference had the option of recording their sessions. Technology provided by the DMP was used to capture the sound and slides from participating presenters. These recordings were then loaded to Ryecast. The LTO will spotlight a different session each month on the LTO Blog. We hope this will give Ryerson instructors the opportunity to catch sessions they missed at the conference, as well as engage with each other in a conversation about topics in learning and teaching.
