This program is intended to enhance the English speaking, grammar, vocabulary and writing skills of Ryerson Faculty. The program will allow faculty whose first language is not English to improve their fluency skills needed to effectively teach, acquire the necessary English writing skills to effectively provide student feedback, as well as enhance English writing skills for academic purposes. Faculty from across the university have requested such services from the LTO and from the student-based EAL (English as an Additional Language) program.
An English Language Specialist will work individually and confidentially with faculty members to help them improve their oral communication skills when interacting with students and colleagues in order to provide them with the best opportunity to be successful in their career at Ryerson University.
The English Language Specialist will work one-on-one with each professor, visit classrooms and prepare customized training materials. Participants have a choice of meeting face-to-face or online through Adobe Connect.
Professors enrolled in this program will be given free access to the Grammarly automated proofreader website.
This program is collaboration between the Learning and Teaching Office and the Student Learning Support Centre.
The program is a continuous intake program and includes a pre- and post-assistance evaluation.
Meetings with the Language Specialist run for 45 minutes once a week for 12 weeks. After that participants have the opportunity to continue with the program on a limited basis.
