"Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teachers" by Dr. Timothy Pychyl.
This presentation will focus on fundamental principles adapted from Stephen Covey's "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People" as a framework for thinking about how we might approach our teaching. By integrating a number of "voices" from writing in higher education, as well as his own personal experience, Tim will elaborate on how each of these habits can be considered fundamental to effective teaching practice and in the successful facilitation of learning. His purpose is to challenge assumptions about the role of technique in effective teaching and to consider an alternative way to think about "best practice" in teaching. His hope is that this perspective on our teaching might foster the 'courage to teach" as Parker palmer puts it, in this new information technology environment.

"Standards of Quality in Online Education" by Dr. Kathryn Winograd.
Online courses have been characterized by the Institute of Higher Education Policy as mostly syllabi and text posting. Emulation of the traditional classroom online is no longer considered by organizations like the American Federation of Teachers as an acceptable stop-gap for quality in the eLearning medium. These professional organizations and other education institutions continue to grapple with the definition and criteria for what quality in an online course constitutes, especially given 21st century learning goals. Her presentation will explore the commonalities between standards proposed by these various education groups and demonstrate the practical application of these standards in online course.
