The Learning & Teaching Office has gathered a variety of resources and reports to assist faculty and students in enhancing their classroom learning environment.

We hope this page will provide you with some general classroom strategies.

  • Getting Started: Explore resources for new faculty, tips for the first day of class, and information on designing courses and syllabi.
  • Engaging and Motivating Students: There are many ways of increasing student engagement in the classroom. Learn more about how to motivate students and plan engaging classroom activities.
  • Classroom Management [pdf]: Developed by the LTO in collaboration with the Student Conduct Officer, this document outlines a series of steps that you can take to create a civil classroom environment as well as manage any disruptions that arise.
  • Improving Your Projection [pdf]: Ryerson classrooms can range in size from a narrow boardroom to a full movie theatre. Making sure that you can be heard, no matter how big the space, is an important concern. The LTO has therefore assembled a group of tips that will hopefully enable all Ryerson instructors to project their voice to their classes, large and small.
  • Presentation Skills [pdf]: This document provides tips on improving your classroom presentations through storytelling, statistics, visual aids, and rehearsal.

Please check out the LTO's list of current programs for more services to help you improve your teaching.
