Peer Evaluation of Teaching

Faculty peer evaluation provides feedback to instructors and helps them improve teaching and learning in their courses. When peer evaluation is used to help instructors improve teaching, it is called a formative review. When it is used it determine salary and tenure, it is called a summative review. The following resources provide guidelines, suggestions, best practices, and sample evaluation instruments for both forms of peer review. Table of Contents

- Teaching Evaluation Handbook

The handbook provides a conceptual overview of teaching evaluation, a model for documenting teaching using a portfolio, guidelines for collecting and employing evaluation data from students and peers, an analysis of the evaluation process, and a discussion of the relationship between tenure decisions and the improvement of teaching practice.
