Programs

Tutoring, FA-ST, Workshops

Tutoring: Whenever MAC is open, tutors are present to take questions and work with Ryerson students on their math-related problems and course work.

Math Courses at Ryerson:
MAC has tutors that can help with all undergraduate math courses at Ryerson. Visit LIB549 at these times:
  • Weekdays 12-8pm
  • Weekends 12-5pm

Statistics Courses at Ryerson:
MAC has 3 tutors that specialize in undergraduate statistics help. Look for Hamid Ebrahimi, Amir Gandomi, or Amir Sepasi Zahmati at these times:
  • Mondays 12-2pm, 5-8pm
  • Tuesdays 3-5pm
  • Wednesdays 5-8pm
  • Thursdays 5-8pm
  • Fridays 5-6pm

For help with stats in Excel and SPSS, see Hamid Ebrahimi at these times:
  • Mondays 5-8pm
  • Wednesdays 5-8pm

(Students may still bring other math course work during these times.)

FA-ST: Facilliated Study groups or FA-ST groups are peer-led, well organized, and highly structured group study sessions for specific courses. Students voluntarily engage with their peers under the direction of a model student-leader and together develop effective ways to build content-processing abilities. This is where students can learn how "A-students" think and behave and work.

Workshops: Target workshops are sometimes offered outside of regular MC hours to work on specific math concepts such as Trigonometry, Polynomials, and Equations and Inequalities.

Math Problems Solving Club

The Math Problems Solving Club formed at the end of the Fall 2010 term and has been going strong ever since.

Regular meetings are held in SHE 598 during the Fall and Winter semesters. (Hours will be posted when available.)

There are two main purposes of the Math Problems Solving Club:

  1. to develop a keen interest in problems solving
  2. to get acquainted with some of the many interesting topics in mathematics and techniques in problems solving that are rarely encountered in a typical math curriculum

In terms of mathematical background, many of the topics discussed require no more than an understanding of high school algebra. The weekly problems that are examined are typically elementary in nature but their solutions often require some clever logical processing.
