Guide to Social Science Data Sources
This guide is designed to point you in the direction of the statistical source you may be looking for. There are information and links to Canadian sources at the Federal, Provincial, and Municipal level as well as U.S. and International statistical sources.
Library Catalogue
You can use Ryerson's Library Catalogue to search for various statistical sources including Statistics Canada publications many of which are linked directly from the Catalogue. To search for a publication use either the Title or Keywords search feature.
Reference Sources
A few reference books are listed containing Canadian, U.S. And International statistics. Others can be found under the call number HA located in the Reference collection on the 2nd floor of the library. Many sources are now available electronically via the Library catalogue or through specialized databases listed under Indexes by Title A-Z . Examples include CANSIM (Statistics Canada time-series), SourceOECD, United Nations Common Database, World Development Indicators On-line (World Bank)
Library Indexes
Statistical information may be available in articles in a variety of Indexes e.g. Economic Intelligence Unit Country Reports and Country Profiles has extensive statistics on individual countries. An alphabetical listing of indexes is available on the Library's website.
GD Sourcing
GDSourcing (Government Data Sourcing) is an Internet based research and retrieval company that specializes in helping researchers access statistics collected by the Canadian Federal government. It is designed to identify what national Canadian statistics are available on the Internet free of charge. Each site has its own site summary which describes what free statistics are available on-line to view or download.
