Geospatial Data Viewers on the World Wide Web



  • ArcExplorer is a lightweight GIS data viewer developed by ESRI. This is a complete data explorer that allows users to display and query a wide selection of data sources including ESRI shapefiles, ARC/INFO coverages, and Spatial Data Engine (SDE) layers.

  • Bentley View is an AutoCAD file viewing application that allows users to open, view, and print DGN, DWG, and DXF file formats.

  • ExpressView Browser Plug-in allows users to view, magnify, measure, print and save MrSID and JPEG2000 images.

  • Free Geography Tools is a site that allows you to explore and use various free tools for GIS, GPS, Google Earth, neogeography and more.
  • Gaia Geospatial Platform is a platform designed for advanced geospatial network and SDI needs. This viewer can access various geospatial sources such as Web Mapping Services, Web Map Tile Services and Web Feature Services. In addition, Gaia can access common geospatial file formats such as ESRI Shapefiles and Google (KML/KMZ).

  • GeoCommunity provides links to various Geospatial Data Viewer downloads.

  • Geomatica FreeView is a data viewing tool that supports the loading, viewing, selection, and enhancement of over 100 raster and vector file formats.

  • GMapCreator is a freeware application designed to make thematic mapping using Google Maps simpler by taking a shapefile and automatically generates a working Google Maps website from the data.

  • IRFANVIEW allows users to view a variety of graphic file formats including BMP, JPG, JPEG2000, MrSID, GIF, TIFF, PNG, PCX, PSD, EPS, AVI, and more.

  • JUMP Unified Mapping Platform (JUMP) is an application intended for viewing and processing spatial data. Functions allow users to analyze and manipulate spatial data files, and execute custom spatial data processing applications.

  • MapInfo ProViewer is a user-friendly tool that allows users to view and manipulate maps and tables created in MapInfo Professional.
  • MapTube is a free resource for viewing, sharing, mixing and mashing maps online and also allows users to select any number of maps to overlay and view.

  • Map Warper is an open source tool that allows you to find, edit, and rectify maps based on real maps. (note this tool is still in beta)

  • TatukGIS Viewer allows users to view most GIS/AutoCAD and raster image file types and most ArcView, ArcExplorer, and MapInfo projects. In addition, the viewer supports features including layer properties control, legend control, thematic mapping, spatial and attribute querying, custom labeling, on map measurements, and PDF export.
