The Ted Rogers School of Management prides itself on the number of national and international MBA competitions its students participate in each year. Extracurricular events are an important part of the MBA experience at Ryerson where students often travel abroad to showcase their talent. Faculty members encourage students to participate in the various competitions and serve as mentors and coaches throughout the rigorous preparation process. The following list of competitions are events that Ryerson students have participated in.

MBA Games

The MBA Games is a national multi-day competition that was originated by Queen’s University over 20 years ago. With as many as forty students per team, MBA schools descend on a host city to compete in Academics, Athletics and Sprit. The academic case competitions are demanding and the sports events are intense, but each team competes in the best spirit of mutual respect and camaraderie. Prizes are awarded to the winners of each category but the overall winner must succeed in all three categories to be bestowed the coveted Queen’s Cup. Ryerson’s first showing at the competition in 2007 resulted in placing 3rd overall Academics. The following year, a full team of forty Ryerson MBA students won the entire competition at Hamilton’s McMaster University.

Financial Post MBA Stock Challenge

The National Post MBA Stock Challenge gives one million (hypothetical) dollars to each participating MBA school to invest in the TSX or Venture Exchange for a period of eight months. Teams are featured in the National Post newspaper each month to showcase their investment decision making skills and are ranked on the value of their investment portfolio. Bragging rights for title of best MBA asset manager in the country adds pressure to this highly competitive and nationally documented competition. During a volatile eight month session in 2007-08, Ryerson MBA students placed 3rd against 15 other MBA teams across Canada.
