Course of Study

Introduction

The Midwifery Program's course can be completed in 4-6 years.

  • The course of study is divided into 4 levels. Initially, students complete academic coursework on a full-time or part-time course load.
  • Academic course loads may vary depending on transfer credits.
  • All academic courses must be completed before beginning clinical courses.
  • Clinical segments of the program cannot be completed on a part-time basis. Clinical placements/practicums can involve being on call 24 hours a day, and students must organize their work and life schedules to accommodate the demands of clinical work. Clinical segments of the program include Normal Childbearing, Midwifery: Complications and Consultation, Midwifery: Maternal and Newborn Pathology, and Clerkship as well as two terms of Interprofessional Placements.

  • Clinical placements/practicums may be located outside of Toronto.
  • Students are also required to do regular coursework during their placements.
  • Periodic intensive sessions that last 3-7 days are required aspects of the program.
