Midwifery Education Program
Message From The Director - Mary Sharpe RM, PhD
Welcome to the Midwifery Education Program at Ryerson University. Midwifery at Ryerson is a dynamic and innovative program with faculty engaged in active clinical practice, leading edge research, and professional leadership. We have a collaborative program with McMaster and Laurentian universities. Midwifery students from the three universities have opportunities for shared learning at various times throughout their studies. The curriculum includes a mix of health, social & biological sciences as well as six terms of clinical placements. Students are provided opportunities to integrate academic knowledge with clinical skills as they develop the ability to become primary health care providers.
Class sizes are small with most classes having 10-35 students. We welcome midwifery students from a wide variety of diverse backgrounds. Our students bring a wealth of life experience to this Program.
Situated in the heart of Toronto, Ryerson offers a flexible Program to enable students to complete the Bachelor of Health Sciences (Midwifery) in 4-6 years. Many of our students live outside of Toronto. Faculty includes midwifery professors as well as specialist faculty in the social and biological sciences. Our graduates are working as midwives across Ontario and in other Canadian provinces and territories where midwifery is legally recognized. If you are considering a career in midwifery, we can help you make it a reality at Ryerson.
