Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Biography:
Dr. Bougherara obtained her MASc (2002) and PhD (2005) degrees from the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Montreal (Ecole Polytechnique). Dr. Bougherara held a postdoctoral fellowship (2005-2007) in Biomedical Engineering at NRC Industrial Materials Institute, Boucherville. In August 2007, Dr. Bougherara joined Ryerson University's Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering as an Assistant Professor.
Qualifications:
Postdoctoral researcher in Biomedical Engineering (2005-2007), IMI-NRC, Quebec
PhD Mechancal Engineering (2002-2005), Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Quebec
MASc Mechanical Engineering (2000-2002), Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal, Quebec
Research Interest:
Dr. Bougherera's research interests are in the area of biomechanics, with a special focus on the interface between implants and bones. She is particularly concerned with the development and assessment of biomimetic and conventional implants. Recently, Dr. Bougherera et collaborators developed a thermodynamic model for bone remodeling, growth and regeneration based on the framework of open systems to explain the interaction between bone biology (cell level) and the mechanical environment (micro and macro levels).
Dr. Bougherara has won grants from Ontario Centres of Excellence (Collaborative research projects Grants, Internal Research Tools and Instruments Grants, MITAC/Accelerate Ontario, Ryerson Fund for Interdisciplinary SRC. Dr. Bougherara has authored or co-authored 15 refereed journal publications and 25 conference proceedings.
