Richard Lachman appointed director of zone learning and director of research development, FCAD
As Ryerson continues its momentum and leadership in zone learning, I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Richard Lachman as the new director of zone learning.
Richard launched the Transmedia Zone in 2013 and was the director for three years. He is a professor in the RTA School of Media and also serves as a technology and creative consultant for entertainment and software-development projects. His areas of research include transmedia storytelling, digital documentaries, augmented/locative/VR experiences, mixed realities, and collaborative design thinking. A Gemini award-winning producer, Richard has worked on many Canadian and U.S. interactive and convergent-media projects over his career.
As director, zone learning Richard will provide leadership and strategic direction to the development, sustainability and branding of zone learning, and ensure that initiatives within the zone ecosystem are aligned with the university’s strategic priorities.
With an academic focus, Richard will foster Ryerson’s entrepreneurial and changemaker culture with students, faculty and the administration to produce new projects and programs within the zone ecosystem. In this role, he will ensure zone learning is relevant and valuable to all undergraduate and graduate students, equipping them with valuable first-hand experience and career-building skills – in areas such as networking, project management, sales and marketing.
I am also pleased to announce that Charles Falzon, dean, Faculty of Communication & Design (FCAD) has appointed Richard as director of research development. In this role, he will promote interdisciplinary project development in the creative industries and nurture new opportunities across all FCAD schools.
On behalf of Dean Charles Falzon and myself I would like to congratulate Richard on his appointments.
