I am writing the Ryerson community to share my deep concern with the January 27 executive order by President Trump preventing individuals from the predominantly Muslim countries of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the United States for 90 days.

Ryerson University supports Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's statement (external link, opens in new window)  and we are actively working with Universities Canada (external link, opens in new window)  to express not only our opposition to this ban but to share our support for anyone in our university community who may have been affected.

I have asked Ryerson International to ensure that we are actively assisting any of our community members – staff, students, faculty, researchers - whose travel, study, research or work may have been disrupted by the travel ban.

As we all know, equity, diversity, and inclusion are an essential part of all that we do at Ryerson. We strongly believe that by welcoming a range of worldviews, experience and knowledge we greatly enrich our learning, teaching, research, and work environments.

As the Ryerson University Lifeline Syria Challenge (opens in new window)  so ably demonstrated, Ryerson will actively continue to support and welcome people from around the world to our community.

I will provide further updates to our community on travel assistance as they become available.

For assistance from Ryerson International please contact them at (416) 979-5026 or rihelp@torontomu.ca
