The Ryerson Board of Governors approved a balanced operating budget that promotes the university’s strategic priorities and covers inflationary and salary costs.

At its meeting on Thursday April 27, the Board approved a recommendation that overall average tuition fees increase by three per cent in 2017-18 and in 2018-19. Also approved was a 10 per cent increase in student financial assistance.

The budget reflects a change in the provincial government’s funding formula that will cap funding for enrolment growth, cap overall tuition fee increases at three per cent and enhance student financial assistance through OSAP.

The budget promotes the university’s mission and Academic Plan priorities with particular emphasis on protecting core activities and initiatives to improve student experience, engagement and outcomes.  Areas that the budget will support include: student engagement and success initiatives; teaching resources and pedagogical innovation; SRC support services; Library collections; faculties’ teaching lab and studio equipment; information technology; mental health services; EDI education, awareness and outreach; expansion of innovation including zone learning, and Indigenous education initiatives.

Prior to the Board’s approval there was an extensive period of budget consultation across the university through town halls and meetings with Senate, students, deans, academic chairs and directors, bargaining units and administrative leaders.
