I am writing to inform the community that John Austin has been appointed interim vice-provost, students effective July 31, 2017.

Many of you may know John from his work as executive director, Student Affairs where he oversees a portfolio of services and programs designed to enhance students’ co-curricular experience. As part of the Office of Vice-Provost, Students (OVPS), Student Affairs has supported student success with a number of significant initiatives and achievements including the launch of the Ryerson Mental Health Committee and the enhancement of career education with the national award-winning Ryerson Career Centre. Student Affairs has also prepared for the growth of Ryerson’s residence capacity with nearly 1,000 new beds scheduled to open in fall 2018.

John has worked at Ryerson since January 2011 and, in 2016, he was awarded the Linda Grayson Administrative Leadership Award. A member of the Board of Governors, John advocates for the five pillars of student success: community, professional development, personal development, mental well-being and learning.

I would like to thank John for accepting the appointment, and wish him success in his interim role.
