Ryerson University announces fellowships for Indian students to develop digital media businesses in Toronto, Canada

NEW DELHI, August 5, 2011 --- Six students from India will have the opportunity to take their digital ideas to Toronto, Canada and explore the potential for creating businesses as the result of a new program at Ryerson University's dynamic Digital Media Zone (DMZ).

Ryerson President Dr. Sheldon Levy today announced the fellowship program with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry during a speech at the IIT Delhi. Dr. Levy is concluding a trip to India where he is furthering existing relationships between Ryerson and Indian universities and building new ones.

The Ryerson DMZ Fellowship program is offering six fellowships, valued at approximately Rs. 595,000 each ($12,500 CDN), supporting the students for a four-month term in Toronto with an emphasis on entrepreneurship and innovation in the digital economy.

Students selected for the fellowships will have the opportunity to be a part of Ryerson's hub for student digital entrepreneurs, the Digital Media Zone.

"When you have an international exchange of ideas, great things happen," said Dr. Levy. "This is a wonderful opportunity to bring together some of the best, brightest and most entrepreneurial students from India and Canada with the goal of shaping new digital businesses."
