Sport marketing, sponsorship and management expert Cheri L. Bradish has joined the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University as the Loretta Rogers Research Chair in Sport Marketing. Bradish commenced her five-year term on August 1, 2013.
Bradish, who joins Ryerson after 16 years at Brock University, brings a strong research background complimented by professional sports marketing experience. She has developed a special research focus examining the management and marketing of the Olympic Games, including ambush marketing-related issues. She consulted as a sponsorship and sales specialist with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and in 2011, was chosen as the Canadian Olympic Committee’s representative to attend the International Olympic Academy Session for Educators of Higher Institutes of Physical Education in Ancient Olympia, Greece.
“The Ted Rogers School of Management warmly welcomes Dr. Bradish to this new role and our academic community,” said Steven Murphy, dean, Ted Rogers School of Management. “We look forward to her contributions in establishing a strong presence for Ted Rogers School of Management in this area, and I know all students will benefit immensely from her in-depth, real-world sport marketing expertise.”
In addition to undergraduate and graduate student teaching, Bradish will establish a research institute in sport marketing. Her areas of focus will be on the local, national and global sport consumer marketplace, with specialized projects examining sport and social impact and women in sport.
Bradish’s research has appeared in prominent journals such as the Journal of Sport Management, the International Journal of Sport Management and Marketing, and the Sport Management Review and she has delivered numerous refereed academic and professional presentations. Her professional experience was garnered through work with the Florida Sports Foundation, Nike Canada Inc., the Florida State University Department of Athletics (NCAA), and the NBA’s Vancouver Grizzlies. She is a member of numerous professional associations including the Canadian Olympic Association, the North America Society for Sport Management and the International Sport Marketing Association. In 2013, Bradish was recognized by Brock University with a faculty award for teaching excellence.
Bradish holds a MSc and PhD in Sport Management from Florida State University. She graduated from Guelph University with a Bachelor of Arts.
The Loretta Rogers Endowed Research Chair, established in 2007, is a rotating chair position with a five-year term, and is made possible through a significant leadership gift from the Rogers family. The chair is named after Loretta Rogers, the wife of the late Ted Rogers, Ryerson University benefactor and Canadian sports entrepreneur, and aims to advance management education at the Ted Rogers School of Management at Ryerson University, nationally and globally.
