TORONTO, Aug. 29, 2011 --- Hundreds of Ryerson students, faculty and staff are going to shake things up by trying to breaking the Guinness World record for the largest maracas ensemble.
To get the crowd excited and hyped up, Ryerson's own Orientation Crew will teach everyone a rhythm with their maracas. The crowd will then have an opportunity to rehearse for a few minutes before they start the official challenge.
The goal is to have 900 people in Ryerson's Quad playing the musical piece simultaneously for two minutes. This would beat the previous record of 407 people set in Manchester, England.
Speakers including Ryerson University Sheldon Levy and Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam will be at the event to welcome the participants and warm up the crowd.
Note: area will be fenced in to keep an official count of the participants. Reporters should enter through the southwest entrance at Gould Street and identify themselves as media to the volunteers on site so they won't be included in the official count.
