MEDIA ADVISORY
TORONTO, Aug. 26, 2013 --- Ryerson students will be breaking out their bellbottoms and platform shoes as they attempt to break the Guinness World record for the largest soul train dance on Wed., Aug. 28, 2 p.m., in the campus quad.
The goal is to beat the previous record set by 291 dancers who strutted their stuff outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art last February. A DJ will also be spinning tunes to get the students revved up for the orientation event. The unofficial results will be announced immediately after the challenge. There will be two witnesses on hand to verify the count as well.
Speakers including Ryerson President Sheldon Levy and Ryerson Students’ Union will welcome the participants and warm up the crowd.
Note: Quad will be fenced in to keep an official count of the participants. Reporters should arrive by 2 p.m. and enter through the southwest entrance at Gould Street. They need identify themselves as media to the volunteers on site so they won’t be included in the official count.
Parking for media trucks: Limited parking is available at the north end of the quad near Ryerson Theatre,
43 Gerrard St. East. Volunteers will be on hand to assist media to that area until 2 p.m. Street parking also available on Church and Gerrard Sts.
