Introducing the National Institute on Ageing

The National Institute on Ageing (the NIA) is a newly formed research center, marking the evolution and expanded mandate of the Pension Innovation and Research Centre (PIRC). The NIA contemplates both the financial and health aspects of ageing. This Institute will produce practitioner-oriented, actionable research, education, and innovation, and forge partnerships with other organizations and institutions, to advance knowledge and inform policy related to the four pillars outlined in the National Seniors Strategy, released in October 2015:

  • Independent, Productive and Engaged Citizens
  • Healthy and Active Lives
  • Care Closer to Home
  • Support for Caregivers

Learn more about these pillars and the related work of the NIA.

Our inaugural national conference was such a success last year – and we look forward to hosting the event again in November, 2017! We’ll take a deeper dive into the key themes that were raised and discussed at last year’s conference, as well as offer up new content and expertise through the series of panel and workshop discussions. We hope to see you there! To see a summary of the discussions from last year’s event, you can read our proceedings document here. Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to sign up for our e-news to stay up to date on this year’s conference and the work of the NIA!
