Scholarships, Awards & Bursaries
A variety of scholarships, awards and bursaries are available to new and returning School of Nutrition students. The descriptions below outline each award , the criteria and application requirement. The School of Nutrition Awards Ceremony honouring successful candidates is held in the Fall.

Please Note:
- Full-time course load - a minimum of 80% course load (4 units) in both fall and winter semesters. Priority will be given to applicants with full-time course loads in the previous academic year. If you are taking fewer than five courses, and feel otherwise eligible to apply for one or more of these awards, please include information explaining your course load in your application.

Joan Augustine Entrance Awards For students entering Ryerson University's School of Nutrition program from high school who demonstrates financial need; Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; Minimum 80% average, based on best 6 Ontario grade 12 U/M courses; One to two page cover letter describing how the Nutrition program fits with the applicant’s own interests and aspirations; Resume; Copy of high school grades. | August 30, 2013 |

| The School of Nutrition Academic Achievement Award 1 award up to $600 This award was established to provide financial assistance and to recognize the academic achievement of a full-time student enrolled in the School of Nutrition. Open to full-time School of Nutrition Student who is an Ontario resident that demonstrates financial need and demonstrates overall excellence in their studies with a GPA of 3.33 or higher with a clear academic standing; Must be a Canadian Citizen, a Permanent Resident or a Protected Person; Students may be self-nominated or be nominated by faculty or a member of the community; letter explaining how the applicant meets the award criteria; Copy of transcript(s). |

Brenda Ball Memorial Award Must be a full-time student in Year 3 or 4 of the Nutrition and Food program; high academic achievement in previous academic year; demonstrated financial need; and living away from home; Preference will be given to a student whose home residence is in Ottawa (failing that, Eastern Ontario, example east of Kingston); A two to three page letter describing how the applicant meets the award criteria and describing his or her professional goals |

Carol Taylor Memorial Award This award may be shared by two or more students. Dorotea Landau Memorial Award This award may be shared by two or more students. Must be a full-time student enrolled in their 3rd or 4th year in the Nutrition and Food program with a CGPA of 2.75 or better and be in clear academic standing; One-page letter describing how they meet the award criteria and describing his or her professional goals; one-page essay indicating their interest and commitment to working with people living with diabetes through volunteer or paid experiences, or professional placement during their program of study at Ryerson University. | September 13, 2013 |

| Elizabeth Chant Robertson Award 1 award up to $500 Must be a full-time student in their final year of the Nutrition and Food program; A two to three page letter describing how the applicant meets the award criteria and describing his or her professional goals; An essay, assignment or project proposal that is in keeping with both the mission of the School of Nutrition – to prepare practitioners who have the knowledge, dispositions, and skills to create inclusive environments that optimize heath and social well-being – and the work and achievement of Dr. Elizabeth Chant Robertson whose early book on nutrition was one of the first creative and reliable sources of nutrition information for Canadians. |

Ottawa Home Economics Association Scholarship Open to full-time student in Year 3 or Year 4 of the Nutrition and Food program who is a resident of Ottawa (failing that, to the student whose home is closest to Ottawa) with a high academic achievement in previous academic year; Must have a keen and sincere interest in the field of Home Economics; One to two page letter describing how the applicant meets the award criteria. |

Mikey Network Awards Open to all Ontario resident Nutrition students who demonstrate financial need; Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person; Must have achieved a minimum 80% overall average in 6 Grade 12 U/M credits (if candidate is entering first year) or a minimum CGPA of 3.50 (if candidate is beyond the first year); Students may be self-nominated or be nominated by their peers, staff or faculty members in the School of Nutrition; Applicants/nominator shall write a letter to explain how the student meets the Award criteria including evidence of the applicant’s commitment to the promotion of nutrition to prevent chronic disease; Letter of Support. | September 13, 2013 | |
