Tri-Mentoring Mixer was a smashing success!

First Nation child painting

On the evening of September 17th, the NCU, Schoolof Nutrition and Tri-Mentoring program joined forces to throw a bangin’ superhero-themed mixer filled with platters of delicious food, karaoke and a spin on the classic newlywed game to see how well mentees and mentors could get to know one another. And yes, of course there were prizes up for grabs. With music pumping while everyone happily mingled and learned what Tri-Mentoring is all about, it was clear that only one thing was missing - cake. Oh wait, we had that too.

The School of Nutrition's first year food science lab course (FND100) students and professor Yvonne Yuan had another stellar year of fundraising for the Ryerson University Community Food Room with sales of preserves and donations totalling $773.00.

For 2013, students prepared blueberry-raspberry jams, pickled beets, corn relish and dilled green & yellow beans as part of their course work. Thanks go out to all of our students, colleagues and friends for their enthusiastic support of this learning and community building initiative. more >>

On July 25, 2013, Rye's HomeGrown hosted a community kitchen event where local produce was transformed in to a delicious meal.  Covenant House Youth and Ryerson students volunteered their time and took to the kitchen.  Kale, swiss chard, serviceberries, garlic, cucumbers, mustard greens, zucchinis, basil, sage, oregano, lettuce, thyme, tomatoes, and hot peppers were harvested that morning and by 12 noon a beautiful spread of veggie-pesto pizza, squash saag, mixed greens salad, and serviceberry pie was enjoyed by over 30 hungry tummies.  There was chopping, sizzling, munching, and laughing echoing through the Cara Commons that afternoon.  Here's to more local and delicious lunches! more >>
