Dr. Tracey Raney is Associate Professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration, and a member of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies, at Ryerson University. In addition to holding a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Calgary, she holds a Masters Degree in Canadian Studies (with a specialization in Women’s Studies) from Carleton University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Studies from Queen’s University.
Her research interests include Canadian politics, Canadian social policy, women and politics (Ontario and Canada), national identity, social identities, political culture (Canada and the U.S.), and politics and popular culture. In May 2009, her paper “A Woman’s Duty? The Influence of National Identity, Duty to Vote and Gender on Voter Turnout” (with Loleen Berdahl) was nominated for the Jill Vickers Prize for the best paper presented on gender and politics at the Annual Meeting of the Canadian Political Science Association. She is interested in working with graduate students who share some of these interests.
Dr. Raney is on sabbatical during the 2012-2013 academic year. In addition to working on various other projects (listed below), she will be a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Social Sciences at the Universitat Stuttgart in the winter of 2013.
