Public Administration Program for Fire Service Professionals

An Exceptional Opportunity for
Fire Service Professionals to Earn a
Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Public Administration and Governance

The Fire Services curriculum is designed for fire services personnel working in the public and para-public sectors. Week-long, intensive mode courses are offered so fire service professionals can work towards earning a Certificate or Advanced Certificate in Public Administration and Governance as part of the Career Path designed and recommended by the Office of the (Ontario) Fire Marshal (OFM) and the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs (OAFC). Through a partnership of the OFM , OAFC, and Ryerson’s Department of Politics and Public Administration, accredited courses making up the Certificate (Level I) and Advanced Certificate (Level II) are offered at the Ontario Fire College in Gravenhurst in intensive-mode, week-long format.

The partnership was formalised in November 2006 with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that, among other things, provides recognition -- in the form of a reduced number of Professionally-Related course requirements -- of the Company Officer, Training Officer, and Prevention Officer Diplomas conferred by the Ontario Fire College (OFC). See photo of the signing ceremony.

"The Public Administration Program has assisted in advancing my career, allows for flexible learning and faculty strive to meet the needs of the students as adult learners."
