Since the launch of the Politics and Governance program in 2005, its structure has been amended twice.  Students’ individual graduation requirements are established by the curriculum in effect at the time of admission, unless a “Requirement Term Change Form” (available in the Department) has been completed and submitted.

Students admitted in Fall 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, or 2010 must complete a total of nine courses, a minimum of FIVE (5) of which must be at the 400 level

Students admitted in Fall 2011 (or later) must complete a total of ten courses, a minimum of FIVE (5) of which must be at the 400 level

NOTE: With advance written approval of the Department:

  • Public Administration (PPA) courses may be substituted for Table II Professional courses at an equivalent level; and / or
  • Upper Level Politics Liberal Studies electives (i.e., POL courses identified in their calendar description with “UL”) courses may be substituted for 300-level Table II Professional courses.

Students admitted in Fall 2005 must complete a total of twelve courses.

Students admitted in Fall 2006 (or later) must complete a total of eleven courses.

Refer to the checklists above for the configuration of Professionally Related electives required by the curriculum in effect at the time of your admission. 

For students admitted in or after Fall 2011, the configuration is:

  • TWO to FOUR Humanities electives selected from Table I
  • TWO to FOUR Social Science electives selected from Table I
  • ONE to SIX electives from disciplines outside the Faculty of Arts selected from Table III
  • up to FIVE electives selected from Table IV

Students admitted before Fall 2011 should select their Table I requirements from an earlier version of the Table
