In 2009, Dr. Janice Fung completed her PhD in Architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow School of Art (affiliated to the University of Glasgow). Her doctoral thesis, The Unintended Negative Consequences of Decision-Making in Glasgow’s Social Housing Sector, was on the evaluation of decision-making in design, design management, and user-response and intervention in the home environment, specifically focusing on physiological and cognitive impacts with an overall aim for improved health and well-being. Her doctorate will be published by VDM Publishing House Ltd. at the start of 2011. Dr. Fung is also an accredited Registered Graphic Designer of Ontario with an Honours Bachelor of Design from York University and Sheridan College and has written as a freelance columnist for PrintAction Magazine, expanding on print from a designer’s perspective. She joins Ryerson as a graduate instructor for the MPC program within the School of Professional Communication and as a postdoctoral research fellow for the School of Graphic Communications Management. Her postdoctoral study, Changes in Print Media Technology and Social Practice, seeks to better understand the reasons behind the slow adoption of new technologies within the traditional print industry to help shape future business planning strategies and determine development priorities, especially for Canadian small and medium printers.
