Scholarships

Award WinnerThe Jacqueline Atkins Scholarships For Excellence In Business And Professional Writing*

The School of Professional Communication offers two scholarships each year, the Jacqueline Atkins Scholarship for Excellence in Business Writing and the Jacqueline Atkins Scholarship for Excellence in Professional Writing.

The Jacqueline Atkins Scholarships honour the memory of a Ryerson professor who was a pioneer in the teaching of business communication in Canada. Professor Atkins exemplified business communication at its finest. In everything she said or wrote, she strove to be correct, honest, and considerate of her listeners or readers.

The Scholarships are awarded annually to a business writing student and a professional writing student whose work embodies the principles of clarity, correctness, integrity and consideration.

All students in CMN 100, CMN 124, CMN 201, CMN 207, CMN 279, CMN 300 and CMN 373 are automatically eligible for the awards.  At the end of the semester, professors of these courses may nominate one or more students based on regular communication assignments during the semester.

Actual graded assignments along with an unmarked word processed exact copy will be submitted, so it is important that each student retain all graded assignments returned during the semester. Your professor may nominate you!

Judging for 2011/2012 will be in the summer of 2012. The scholarship will normally be presented at the Fall 2012 Awards Ceremony in the winners' home Schools.
