Ryerson's Experiential Learning Office

2012 Review

The Experiential Learning Office (ELO) at Ryerson works in partnership with academic and administrative units, faculty, staff and students to facilitate experiential learning at Ryerson. The office takes a pro-active approach in supporting effective experiential learning practices throughout the university, advocating for institutional policies and infrastructure to enhance the learning environment, promoting experiential learning activities, and fostering new initiatives.

After five years of service, the current director of the ELO, Professor Katherine Penny, will move to serve in the new post of director, Curriculum Quality Assurance. That position, reporting directly to the vice-provost, academic, supports alignment of Ryerson's undergraduate curriculum with the requirements of the Ontario Council on Quality Assurance. It will also support Ryerson programs as they move towards alignment with the revised curriculum framework approved by the Senate in June 2011.

A committee has been formed to consider the role and direction of the ELO. The committee is chaired by the vice-provost, academic and includes representatives from across the university.

The committee is scheduled to file a report with recommendations later this spring.
