Biography:

Keywords: law and psychology; social psychology; wrongful convictions; medical ethics

I received my Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Toronto.  My doctoral work examined the effects of pre-trial publicity on jurors’ verdicts. Although common sense would suggest that such negative publicity must have a prejudicial impact on jurors, the research is not so clear; if there is a strong link, we have not yet found it.

Since 1999, I have been a faculty member in the Department of Psychology at Ryerson University where my research explores issues related to medical  ethics, jury processes, jury selection, the impact of pre-trial publicity on juror’s verdicts, and the use of alibi evidence.  Currently, I am examining the factors that lead to wrongful convictions.

While I have taught a wide variety of courses here at Ryerson, you will typically find me teaching Social Psychology (Psy504/Psy124), Psychology and Law (Psy300) or Introductory Psychology (Psy102/202).  My undergraduate courses are linked to blackboard sites, which registered students may access at http://my.ryerson.ca
