Psychology Graduate Program (MA, PhD)
Brain, Perception, and Cognition
The Brain, Perception, and Cognition (BPAC) area includes 13 active research laboratories specializing in audiovisual perception, music psychology, emotion and motivation, memory, decision-making, cognitive development, and cognitive aging.
Faculty and graduate students in the BPAC area use a wide variety of methods including behavioural methods (accuracy, reaction time), psychophysics, computational modelling, electrophysiology (EEG/ERP), and functional neuroimaging (fMRI). Laboratories are housed in the Psychology Research and Training Centre (PRTC), located in Toronto’s Discovery District, providing excellent opportunities for collaboration with surrounding hospitals, institutes, and industry.
Each member of the BPAC faculty has a computer‐based laboratory for data collection and analysis, as well as dedicated workspaces for graduate students and research assistants. Research participants are recruited from the community and the Ryerson student body. Access to middle‐aged and senior participants is provided by Ryerson’s Chang School of Continuing Education.
Through external collaborations we additionally have access to clinical populations (e.g., patients with schizophrenia). BPAC labs maintain a high degree of research productivity and hold funding from NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, the Ministry of Research and Innovation, NARSAD, and other agencies. BPAC meetings, held regularly throughout the academic year, provide a forum for lively discussion, collaboration, and promotion of research excellence.
