by Lisa Vuong
The 3rd Annual Faculty of Arts Awards Ceremony for the Social Sciences (including Psychology, Criminal Justice, Politics & Governance, Sociology, and Undeclared Arts) was held on October 28th, 2008 at the historic Arts and Letters Club of Toronto. It was an inspiring night with our Psychology program students well represented as top academic award recipients in several categories.
Psychology students Andreea Andrei and Christopher Carriere both received top academic honours for the highest average of all social science program students in the Arts and Contemporary Studies course, ACS 105 (Critical Thinking), during the 2007-08 academic year. This challenging course is required for all social science students in the first year of the common curriculum. The awards were presented by Dr. Jim Dianda from the Department of Philosophy.
The First-Year award was presented to Psychology student Andreea Andrei. Andreea had the highest combined average of all First-Year students pursuing a BA in Psychology during the 2007-08 academic year in our flagship courses PSY 102 (Introduction to Psychology I) and PSY 202 (Introduction to Psychology II). This award was presented by Dr. Stephen Want, Psychology Professor and Andreea’s instructor for PSY 102 and 202.
Psychology student Katherine Frederick was awarded the top Second Year honour. She had the highest combined average of all Second-Year students pursuing the BA degree in Psychology during the 2007-08 academic year in our required curriculum courses, PSY124 (Social Psychology), PSY325 (Behavioural Disorders) and PSY411(Research Methods & Statistics). This award was presented by Dr. Michelle Dionne, Psychology Professor and Interim Department Chair.
Andreea Andrei was a multiple winner that night, as she was also presented with one of the prestigious Faculty of Arts Awards for Excellence. This was presented by Dr. Marcia Moshe, Associate Dean, and Dr. Carla Cassidy, Dean of Arts, for outstanding overall academic achievement during the 2007-08 academic year.
