Research Towards a Better Future

Turning the CNE into a research lab

School of Occupational and Public Health professor Kathryn Woodcock has turned the Ex into an outdoor lab for undergraduates and grads to learn about amusement ride safety. Woodcock, director of THRILL, is providing the students an opportunity to learn about ride inspection, see how the ride technology works and get a better understanding of the industry.

Two Ryerson researchers successful with Ontario Research Fund's Research Infrastructure Program

Two noted Ryerson researchers, Dérick Rousseau and Gideon Wolfaardt, both from the Department of Chemistry and Biology, were named as Ontario Research Fund (ORF) recipients. Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation Minister Glen Murray announced $7.5 million in support for 104 projects involving 1,300 researchers at 14 institutions across the province. To date, $1.9 billion has been invested in research funding since the programs began in 2003.

First Stop, Ryerson

Making his first public appearance the day after being named to cabinet, the new Minister of Research and Innovation, Glen Murray, was at Ryerson to announce more provincial government support for research. Calling Ryerson a 'hotspot' for innovation and urging researchers to work collaboratively with peers at other institutions, Murray announced funding through the Early Researcher Awards (ERA) and the Ontario Research Fund (ORF).

Accelerating research

Professors Marcello Papini, mechanical and industrial engineering, and Deborah Fels, information technology management, have received funding of more than $120,000 each to accelerate their promising research programs. This is a program to support outstanding researchers who show strong potential to become international leaders in their field.
