The growth and health of our communities depends upon those that are willing and able to advocate the values and beliefs that will come to define Canada. Civil society is an essential field of research at Ryerson. Ryerson is home to a number of researchers working to shape Canadian policy as well as Canada’s role and identity on the world stage.

Ryerson’s faculty performs in-depth analysis into Canadian and international communities, raising awareness to help to shape thought, policy, and politics in a diverse range of social issues. For example, our researchers are examining the perception of Aboriginal peoples in Canada, analysing the role of crop and livestock production in HIV/AIDS-affected and non-affected urban communities in Africa, and examining the portrayal of Tamil refugees in Canadian newsprint media.
