INTERNAL AWARDS 

 

The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation is delighted to announce a new program of awards recognizing outstanding contributions to scholarly, research and creative (SRC) activity across Ryerson University. There will be four new awards in addition to the Sarwan Sahota Distinguished Scholar Award.

SARWAN SAHOTA RYERSON DISTINGUISHED SCHOLAR AWARD

An annual award presented to one or more faculty members who have made an outstanding contribution to knowledge or artistic creativity in their area(s) of expertise while employed at Ryerson. The contribution to SRC excellence may be a long-term, cumulative contribution or a single, particularly insightful or seminal idea, experiment, application or interpretation.

Award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition, plaque and a research grant of $3,000.

EARLY RESEARCH CAREER EXCELLENCE AWARD

An annual university-wide award that allows researchers who are at the beginning of their academic careers to develop independent research programs. This award will be presented to an outstanding researcher who is in the first five years of his or her academic career, and who has made an outstanding contribution to scholarly, research, and creative activity in their area(s) of expertise.

The award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a research grant of $2,000.

COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH AWARD

An annual university-wide award presented to a researcher involved in projects and research undertaken as part of a multi-disciplinary or multi-institutional team. This award will be granted to a researcher who excels at creating and maintaining collaborations with industry, university, and/or community partners to facilitate research that effects positive changes in their respective field(s).

The award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a research grant of $2,000.

KNOWLEDGE MOBILIZATION AND ENGAGEMENT AWARD

An annual university-wide award presented to one or more researchers who have demonstrated outstanding effort in communicating research beyond the university and significant impact in shaping evidence-based policy and practice. This award recognizes the ability of the researcher(s) to facilitate conversations and collaborations with organizations and communities outside the academy, combining knowledge from different spheres of society to generate new ideas.

The award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a research grant of $2,000.

SOCIAL INNOVATION AND ACTION RESEARCH AWARD

An annual university-wide award being presented for a completed rigorous research project, typically with community partners, focused on advancing social goals (normally defined as Poverty Alleviation & Development, Education, Health, Human Rights, Diversity & Inclusion, Violence Prevention & Peacebuilding, Sustainability, and Capacity Building & Engagement). Projects may include a full range of social innovation initiatives, such as corporate social responsibility, public-private partnerships, new ventures, and process improvements within existing nonprofit or government organizations.

The award recipient(s) will receive a certificate of recognition and a research grant of $2,000.

DEANS' SCHOLARLY, RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVITY AWARD

Recognizes individual faculty members on an annual basis for outstanding scholarly, research and creative (SRC) achievements and impact on their disciplines during the previous academic year.
