External Scholarships

There are hundreds of financial aid opportunities available to students participating in an international experience. Your options are only limited by the amount of time you are willing to invest.

When looking for sources to fund your travels, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  • There is a never ending supply of scholarships and awards posted on the internet. Try to keep your search topics broad and look for any award offered to students (it does not have to be offered specifically for study abroad/international).

  • That said, be careful! Watch out for internet scams. Do your research and find out who is offering the award and what their motivation is for offering it. If the award sounds too good to be true, it probably is. You should never have to pay money to find out about or apply for scholarships. Click here for more information about scholarship scams: http://www.finaid.org/scholarships/scams.phtml

  • While there are many awards available to help supplement your travel budget, do not count on these to fund your trip. If you cannot afford the trip without an award, you need to reconsider your plans.

The programs listed below should provide a good place to start your search for funding.
