From the Collection is a rotating display highlighting
works from the Ryerson Image Centre’s permanent collection

This edition of From the Collection features photographs culled from the RIC’s Black Star Collection of photojournalism, showing Angela Davis and Kathleen Cleaver, leading female figures of the Black Panther Party. Active in the United States between 1966 and 1982, this revolutionary organization was dedicated to the struggle for black empowerment and liberation. Through their tireless activism, charisma and frequent appearance in news publications such as Life, Newsweek, Ebony, and Jet, Davis and Cleaver reached cult-like status.

Photographs of Angela Davis on view: January 18 – March  5
Photographs of Kathleen Cleaver on view: March 7 – April 9
