PUBLIC PROGRAMS
Each exhibition at the Ryerson Image Centre is accompanied by public opening receptions, gallery tours, lectures, conferences, symposia, screenings and more. The Research Centre also presents "Noon Time Collection Talks;" intimate conversations focusing on the Ryerson Image Centre’s vast photography collections. All public programs are free admission and open to the public.

Join Dawoud Bey for a talk as part of our Tanenbaum Lecture Series. Our exhibition, Birmingham, Alabama, 1963, features Dawoud Bey’s photographic portraits commemorating the victims of the 1963 bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, are contextualized alongside photojournalistic prints from our Black Star Collection.

Emily McKibbon

William Notman's photographs of the Montreal based Frothingham family are among his most experimental studio portraits. These compositions often featured many props and various poses that defied traditional studio formats prevalent in the nineteenth and early twentieth century. Join Emily McKibbon, Associate Curator and Collections Manager at the McLaren Art Centre, as she discusses the different aspects of Notman's portraiture as well as the multiple points of entry into this unusual group of family photographs.

The RIC is pleased to offer daily guided walking-tours of all current exhibitions by trained docents. Tours begin inside the Great Hall and run for approximately 45 minutes, including time for questions and comments. No registration is required and all tours are FREE to the public!
